Sons

Entered in the 2013 National Poetry Slam, “Sons,” is a spoken word poem by Terisa Siagatonu and Rudy Francisco about the rape trial of two college football stars and the impact the narrative of a failed football career had on the woman’s life that was changed in an instant. They discuss rape culture and toxic masculinity in the context of raising children and how socialization norms have shifted the blame away from the rapist.
