Alexandra Sacks, a reproductive psychiatrist, has a new way of explaining the transition to motherhood, which for some can be a very challenging and discouraging process. She shares her experiences working with mothers suffering from postpartum depression and clearly analyses and demonstrates how we should view motherhood as a time of change, both physically and psychologically. Sacks describes parallels to adolescence; both stages share a surge of hormones that make emotions challenging and a changing body that requires accommodations.
