This is Gospel

“This is Gospel” by Panic! at the Disco shines light on the difficulties that addiction brings into people’s lives. Written by band front runner Brendon Urie, the song is about the alcohol and drug addiction that his friend and bandmate Spencer Smith was facing. Urie says that this song expresses the anger and frustration he felt for not being able to help his friend through the struggles he was experiencing. “This is Gospel” switches points of view between a person who is suffering from the addictive disorder to the perspective of a loved one, through haunting lyrics that capture the pain of all involved.

Don’t try to sleep the end of the world
Bury me alive
‘Cause I won’t give up without a fight

If you love me let me go
If you love me let me go
‘Cause these words are knives that often leave scars
The fear of falling apart
