Identity in an Endless Time

The passage of time is constant and this is something that can be anxiety inducing or reassuring to some. The knowledge that time will go on can be comforting, knowing that hard times will pass. On the other hand the pressure to do things with time that doesn’t slow for anyone can cause anxiety.

Canadian Artist Rayven Rigato’s 2018 piece “The Pursuit of Time” depicts the passage of time and realization of how short our time is in the infinity of time.  The piece represents the anxiety and conflict of feeling pressure to have an impact but feeling insignificant in the grand scheme.

With realization that our lives are limited, bound to time, comes a tug of war between the self and society. Pressure to find balance between what you want to do with your life, and what society wants. To find balance between individual happiness, identity and societal ideals of success.

This piece reflects the complicated beauty that is life in time that never ends. It reflects the desire and need to find yourself and your identity in a passage of time that waits for no one.

Your time here is what you make of it. Even if you feel your life is insignificant in the grand scheme. Your life is significant to you and those you love, so make the most of your limited time in the infinite. But make the most for you, not for the grand scheme.
