The Surprising Science of Happiness
In this TED Talk featuring psychologist Dan Gilbert, he discusses humans’ ability to synthesize happiness. Gilbert introduces a cognitive system referred to as “the psychological immune system”, and discusses how it is able to change our reality, ultimately allowing us to feel better about the world in which we live. He points out that we often forget that we have the ability within our minds to address our overblown longings and worries: “We synthesize happiness, but we think happiness is a thing to be found.”
