Validation
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a complex mental health disorder marked by difficulty in emotion regulation and impulse control, which impacts both the individual and the people in their lives. Fortunately, there is treatment for BPD: dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), a specialized psychosocial intervention well-supported in its effectiveness for treating BPD. As seen in this watercolour painting by artist Emiko Venlet, self-validation is an important skill to learn to cultivate and practice, highlighted in DBT: it supports with much-needed self-acceptance and coping with the emotional pain, an experience common to those with BPD.
