Dealing With Grief

Dealing With Grief

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has always incorporated her own lived experiences into her art, and the song Marjorie was no exception. In Taylor’s latest album, Evermore (2020), the artist allows us a glimpse into her personal feelings about losing her grandmother. Marjorie is the heartbreaking sister song to Epiphany off her first album in 2020 Folklore, about her grandfather’s experiences fighting in the war.

Taylor’s emotional ballad to her grandmother ties together her artistic obsession with love, loss, and grief into one heart-wrenching song, causing the audience to feel her grief through her words.

“And if I didn’t know better
I’d think you were talking to me now
If I didn’t know better
I’d think you were still around
What died didn’t stay dead
What died didn’t stay dead
You’re alive, you’re alive in my head
What died didn’t stay dead
What died didn’t stay dead
You’re alive, so alive”
