The Tree of Life

Gustav Klimt’s famous 1905 mural “The Tree of Life, Stoclet Frieze” depicts a twisting tree that seemingly branches out into the world, connecting with all other figures in the painting. Utilizing gold paint, Klimt portrayed the symbol of the tree of life. This symbolism can be found in countless religions and mythologies.

The tree of life can be seen as symbolizing the perpetuity of life on earth. However it also symbolizes nature’s interconnectedness with all living beings. A black bird may be seen perching on a branch, possibly as a reminder of our finality amongst the branches of life.
