Singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse’s struggles with addiction and mental illness were well-documented by the media. In “Back to Black”, she detailed the difficulty of an on-off relationship, and her resulting depression. She sang of the inevitable return of these feelings:

“I tread a troubled track, my odds are stacked, I go back to black”
