Making Masks to Heal from PTSD
Melissa Walker is a creative art therapist who uses mask-making to help active service members recover from the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. In this TED talk, she describes how the process of making art can be a powerful tool for healing. Trauma can have a silencing effect, but by making masks, soldiers are able to express their thoughts and emotions, helping them let go of what haunts them.
