Fatherless Son

Fatherless Son

“Fatherless Son” is an acrylic painting by Alexander Robinson completed in 2019. The piece appears to be a reflection of how one’s identity continues to grow without a father. The subject of the painting stands in the centre of the frame, which can be interpreted as either looking through a mirror or feeling abandoned. While some are able to model themselves after their parents, the absence of a parent means that we must craft a part of our identity on our own. There is an element of loneliness, instability, and acceptance in this piece, which may reflect the experience of growing up in a single-parent home.
