Mr. Brownstone

Mr. Brownstone” is a song written by Guns N’ Roses guitarists Izzy Stradlin and Slash and featured on the band’s debut album Appetite for Destruction. The song talks about the band’s shared struggle with addiction to heroin and how it affected them. The term “brownstone” is common slang for heroin, and the song describes how the band would take the drug before performing, and eventually, the drug started taking over their lives. Specifically, the song describes the typical day in the life of Slash and Stradlin. The song also highlights the issue of tolerance through the lyrics,

“I used to do a little but a little wouldn’t do

So the little got more and more

I just keep tryin’ to get a little better

Said, a little better than before

I used to do a little but a little wouldn’t do

So the little got more and more

I just keep tryin’ to get a little better

Said, a little better than before”
