Uncomfortable Feelings
‘Overwhelm’, by Rukmini Poddar is a depiction of one of the uncomfortable emotions we can hold in our hearts. Rukmini’s art focuses on the visual expression of her emotions to deepen her connection with herself. She emphasizes the importance of drawing your feelings and encourages others to do the same, as it can help clear your mind and enhance your understanding of your inner world. Often, her artwork not only expresses her own feelings, but resonates with the emotional experiences of others.
As a part of her ongoing project ‘Mapping My Heart’, the piece ‘Overwhelm’ is one part of the vast spectrum of emotions we hold within our hearts and what it would look like to visualize each one. Depicting a seemingly exhausted individual being overtaken by a large dark mass, the sense from the piece is truly overwhelming. To me it perfectly describes what it feels like to be overwhelmed. As uncomfortable as it can be, there is truly something comforting in being able to resonate with these depictions and have even the scariest emotions of ours be heard. You can follow Rukmini’s ongoing project and other artwork on her Instagram.
