Music in Colour
Artist Melissa McCracken was born with a rare neurological condition called Synesthesia. This condition is characterized by a phenomenon, wherein sensory stimulation is automatically experienced through a secondary sensory pathway. From birth, Melissa’s perception of every letter or number has been paired with a colour.
She has now taken what many believe is a wonderful gift, and used it to describe her experience of seeing music. Below is a sample of her acrylic paintings, expressing what she sees in her mind when she listens to a song.
