Rethinking Infidelity

Esther Perel, famed psychotherapist and relationship expert, gives a talk on infidelity and the trauma that comes along with it. Author of several best-selling books, including Mating In Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence, and The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity, Perel describes her TED talk as “a talk for anyone who has ever loved”. Over the course of her 20 minute speech, Perel dives deeply into the reasons why people cheat, the complexities of modern marriage, and offers some ways to understand the pain that comes with being cheated on.

The shift from shame to guilt is crucial. Shame is a state of self-absorption, while guilt is an emphatic, relational response, inspired by the hurt you have caused another.” – Esther Perel, The State of Affairs
