This video by The School Life titled ‘How to Get Out of a Despairing Mood’ expresses why imagination is impaired during a despairing mood, such as depression. Our ability to imagine a world beyond how we are currently feeling can help us feel free from the current negative emotion we are feeling.

‘In order to increase our chances of fulfillment, we need to feed and massage our imaginations. Whatever way we happen to be living, we should constantly force ourselves to picture different, more arduous but still bearable ways to be.’

By attuning ourselves to use our imagination more readily, we can expand our perspectives if or when despairing states arise, so as to remember that we have the power to change our lives.
