Therapy for Black Girls is an online community started by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed psychologist based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Her podcast, blog, and therapist directory have been designed to center the experience of Black women and provide an ongoing conversation about mental health.
The episode of her podcast “Finding the Right Therapist for You” shares many insightful tips about what to consider when looking for a therapist. Dr. Harden Bradford notes that growth in therapy is mainly facilitated by the client-therapist relationship. As a result, it is important to find a fit that works best for you, considering things like your budget and the therapist’s specialty areas.
Dr. Harden Bradford also discusses the enormous need to create more opportunities for Black professionals in the mental health field as it continues to be dominated by white individuals.
