A Light in the Darkness

Marissa Indoe is an artist from Ontario, Canada. In her early teenage years, she unfortunately lost her father to suicide, leading her to develop major depression, generalized anxiety, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. After years of struggling to find relief from these negative emotions, she finally came across watercolour painting which became a healthy coping mechanism for her. She believes that using watercolours specifically has been very beneficial due to its forgiving qualities, and the satisfaction gleaned from watching each colour flow over the paper and blend together. Even when distressed, Marissa pushes herself to create, focusing on the process over the outcome. When she does this, her mind is relieved from the negative feelings she would otherwise be consumed by. If you would like to see more of her work or get in touch, she has an Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok account. Indoe truly shows us the healing potential of art. In her words:

“Painting is the one coping skill in my life that truly eases every level of pain.”
